Understanding and Using the Respiration Widget Glance

The respiration widget glance will display your breaths per minute. This is measured by using your HRV (Heart Rate Variability) as measured by the heart rate sensor of your watch. You can use this widget glance to track your breathing all day, or while sleeping. Activity and movement can impact the ability of your watch to read HRV using the optical heart rate sensor and will result in the watch not being able to calculate your breaths per minute. If you want to track respiration rate during any activity, we recommend using a Garmin® HRM-Pro™ Plus, HRM-Pro™, HRM-Run™, HRM-Tri™, or HRM-Dual™ to capture HRV and respiration data. Third-party chest strap heart rate monitors may not provide respiration data.

The average respiration rate while resting is between 12-20 BRPM (Breaths Per Minute). During activities, BRPM can be much higher, between 40-50 BRPM.

IMPORTANT: Garmin® wearables are not medical devices, and the data provided by them is not intended to be utilized for medical purposes and is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease. Garmin recommends you consult your doctor before engaging in any exercise routine.
