Using Libraries and Collections in Garmin Explore App With Garmin Dog Tracking Products
The Garmin Explore™ app is for reviewing hunt activities and trip planning. There may be reasons to keep some of the data items (waypoints, routes, or activity tracks) grouped together in special ways and separate them from other data items on the map or in the Library.
This article contains information and advice on using Collections for:
Grouping together individual data items in the Library
Showing or hiding these collections of grouped items on the map
Definitions
What is the Library?
The Library is where all of your data is listed and managed in the Garmin Explore app.
The different types of data can be viewed all at once, or by category:
Activities
Waypoints
Routes
Tracks
All
Unorganized (data created that has not been assigned to a collection)
What are Collections?
Collections are a secondary grouping system for waypoints, activities, tracks, and routes.
Collections are used to group together different data items in meaningful ways to review your activities and for trip planning.
Collections can be shown or hidden on the map. This allows you to focus on the specific items that you choose, rather than looking at the entire library all at once.
How Collections Work
Automatically Created Hunt Collections
Each time a Hunt is ended on the dog tracking handheld and it syncs to the app, a new Hunt Collection is automatically created in the Library.
The newly created Hunt Collection will contain the most recent dog tracks, activity tracks, marked truck location, and any contact tracks.
The Hunt Collection is named by the time and date the Hunt was started.
Example Collection name: Hunt: Aug 29, 2020, 9:36am
The Hunt Collection can be renamed.
If a Hunt is not manually ended on the dog tracking handheld, a Collection will be automatically created upon rebooting the handheld.
When Adding and Deleting Collections in the Library
When manually adding a new Collection, you choose the name and what data is assigned to it.
Deleting a Collection does not delete the data from the main Library.
Delete the data from the Library to remove it there.
Individual Items Can Be Filtered Into Multiple Collections
Any waypoint, activity track, or route can be assigned to show in one or multiple Collections. It can also be unassigned so that it is absent from any Collection you choose.
Unorganized Data
Data that is not assigned to any Collection is categorized as Unorganized Data.
This occurs if data is purposefully removed/unassigned from all Collections but is in the Library.
This also occurs if data created within the app is not assigned to a Collection.
All Unorganized Data will show on the map unless it is Hidden via the Map Setting option.
See the step-by-step Instructions section on Show or Hide Unorganized Data On the Map.
Examples and Suggestions for Using Collections
Show a dog's activities/tracks over multiple different hunts in one collection
Organize important waypoints on the map and hide everything else
Group the handheld tracks to create a track based map of all the off road places you have driven
Use a Collection to represent items done in a particular month (or any span of time)
