Garmin® Marine Chart Missing Detail

If a marine chart is missing detail, check the following:

  1. Make sure the area you are viewing is in a region covered by the installed chart. If the chart appears gray, it does not have coverage.

  2. Adjust the chart zoom level. Closer zoom levels will provide more prominent details.

  3. Adjust the chart detail level. Refer to the device's owner's manual for instructions.

  4. If using a premium chart (e.g. BlueChart® Vision, LakeVu® Ultra) and the satellite overlay is enabled, this can reduce other chart details. Refer to the device's owner's manual for steps to change the overlay settings.

    • Select Land Only to show standard chart information on the water with photos overlaying the land.

    • Select Photo Map to show photos on both land and water at a specified opacity. The higher the percentage, the more land and water the satellite photos will cover.

  5. If a chart tile was downloaded to an ActiveCaptain® card in the device, and then installed a newer version of the chart tile on the same card, this can cause missing details. If this occurs, uninstall the tile and re-download it.

Reinstalling chart tiles using ActiveCaptain
    1. In ActiveCaptain, select Charts
    2. Select the chart that has tiles installed
    3. Tap the tile to download twice to uninstall it
    4. When the tile has finished uninstalling, tap it again to re-download it

If chart detail is still missing after following the above steps, it may be necessary to report a marine chart error. See Reporting Marine Chart Errors for further information.
