inReach Mini Series Displays Warning Too Cold to Operate
The inReach Mini series will display a warning about temperature being low while in temperatures under 14ºF/-10ºC. It may also display indicating that it is too cold to charge when under 32ºF/0ºC . While in these temperatures, the inReach Mini series battery life will be affected and operation of the device may be impacted as temperatures drop or if windchill is a factor.
What Can I Do to Use an inReach Mini in Cold Weather?
- Confirm that the device software is current - Installing Software Updates to Outdoor Handhelds
- Make sure the battery is fully charged prior to using it in cold weather
- Store the unit in an inside pocket, close to the body, to keep the device within operating temperatures
- Doing this will impact the messaging and tracking but will keep the device functional
- Power off the unit when not in use
Following the above recommendations will allow the inReach Mini series to be used in freezing temperatures down to -4ºF/-20ºC, as long as use is limited while outside of where it is kept on the body.
