How to Reset an Approach Handheld
If you are having issues with an Approach golf handheld not functioning as expected, you can try performing a reset. This article will address the Approach® G-Series golf handhelds listed below. Performing a Forced Restart on Any Approach Handheld
A forced restart would be used when the Approach handheld is unresponsive or will not power on or off. This type of restart will not clear any user data or reset settings.
Press and hold the Power button.
Wait up to 30 seconds until device powers on/off.
Release the Power button.
Press and hold the Power button to turn it back on if it was powered off.
If the device is still unresponsive, connect the handheld to the computer and then follow the above steps again.
Performing a Master Reset on an Approach G3, G5, G6, or G7 Handheld
A master reset would be used for problems with satellite reception, general functionality issues, or restoring factory default settings (all user information, with the exception of saved scorecards, will be erased with a master reset).
Power off device.
Press and hold on the upper left corner of display.
Power device on while still maintaining pressure on display.
Release display when it says "Do you really want to erase all user data?".
Touch Yes.
The reset on the Approach handheld is successful if the device power-cycles and boots into the setup wizard. It can take several minutes for the handheld to reboot after performing a reset.
Performing an Unprompted Master Reset on an Approach G6 or G7 Handheld
If an Approach G6 or Approach G7 handheld fails to respond to a prompted reset, a non-prompted reset can be performed with the steps below.
Turn the device off.
Press and hold Score/Measure and Green View/Pin Pointer.
Press and release Power.
Release Score/Measure and Green View/Pin Pointer when the Garmin Logo disappears.
If done properly, the initial setup screen will appear shortly.
The device should now reset to default factory settings, and should function as expected. Leave the device outside with a clear view of the sky for up to 20 minutes to acquire satellite data.
Performing a Master Reset on an Approach G30 Handheld
A master reset would be used for problems with satellite reception, general functionality issues, or restoring factory default settings (all user information, with the exception of saved scorecards, will be erased with a master reset).
Power on device.
Wait until text appears at the bottom of the screen.
Press and hold on the upper left corner of display.
Release display when it says "Do you really want to erase all user data?".
Touch Yes.
