Displaying the 3D Highway page showing the Cross Track Error to the Selected Route

The Garmin Helm Controller (GHC) can display a 3D Highway page that provides a magenta navigation line to follow, and if the boat is off course, it will also show a line that represents the cross-track error to get back on the original navigation course.

The autopilot requires the following data to draw 3D Highway "Route To" page:

  1. GPS position
  2. Coordinates of the destination waypoint
  3. Cross Track Error
  4. Bearing to the destination waypoint
  5. Heading
  • If the boat has crossed the perpendicular (this can come in two ways):
  1. Perpendicular Crossed (Can be specified in the Navigation NMEA 2000 PGN)
  • Receiving the desired track (calculates if the perpendicular is crossed with this and the bearing)

A connected Garmin GPS to the autopilot over NMEA 2000 or NMEA 0183 sends the desired information, and the 3D Highway page should be visible.
