Garmin Express Only Offers Options to Contact Product Support or Use a Memory Card

NOTES:
  • In accordance with the Lifetime Maps and Maps Terms and Conditions, map updates and/or Downloadable Content (DLC) are no longer available to download or purchase and cannot be activated and/or associated with the Garmin devices listed in Map Updates and Downloadable Content No Longer Available to Download or Purchase.
  • This is due to these devices not having sufficient memory capacity and other required technical capabilities to utilize current map data.
 

The following error messages may appear while Garmin Express™ software is preparing for a map update. This is due to limited internal storage on the GPS device with or without a memory card inserted.


Insufficient Internal Space Error Messages:

  • "We're unable to install the updates. The latest version of these maps have so much new information that we're not going to be able to fit it all on your device's internal memory. Please contact Product Support for help with updating your maps."

  • "The latest version of these maps have so much new information that we're not going to be able to fit it all on your device's internal memory. Here's what you can do: Use a Memory Card (Recommended)".


Ensure Garmin Express™ is Up to Date

Follow These Steps to Free up Space on the Device if the Issue Continues

Windows:

  1. Connect the Garmin device into the computer
  2. Press the Windows key + E
  3. Click This PC (Windows 10 & 11 only)
  4. Open the Garmin drive
  5. Open Internal Storage or Internal Garmin Storage (not all devices require this step)
  6. Open the Voice folder
    • The Voice folder is located in the Garmin folder on some devices.
  7. Delete any unwanted language files
  8. Go back to the previous folder
  9. Follow steps 6-8 for the Text, Keyboards, and Help folders (Keep all files beginning with “en”)
  10. Open the GPX folder
  11. Delete the Archive folder (this folder contains the Trip Log information, backup this data before deleting if it is needed)
  12. Disconnect the Garmin GPS device from the computer
  13. Allow the GPS device to boot up to the main menu
  14. Reconnect the GPS device to the computer
  15. Open Garmin Express™ and attempt the update again

Mac:

  1. Connect the Garmin device into the computer
  2. Open Finder
  3. Click Go in the Apple menu bar
  4. Click Computer
  5. Open the Garmin drive
  6. Open the Voice folder
    • The Voice folder is located in the Garmin folder on some devices.
  7. Delete any unwanted language files
  8. Go back to the previous folder
  9. Follow steps 6-8 for the TextKeyboards, and Help folders (Keep all files beginning with “en”)
  10. Open the GPX folder
  11. Delete the Archive folder (this folder contains the Trip Log information, backup this data before deleting if it is needed)
  12. Empty the trash on the Mac
  13. Eject the device and disconnect the cable
  14. Turn the device on and allow the GPS device to boot up to the main menu
  15. Reconnect the GPS device to the computer
  16. Open Garmin Express™ and attempt the update again
