BirdsEye Direct is a preloaded service with no annual service fee for BirdsEye Satellite Imagery. To download satellite imagery on a Montana® 700, 700i, 710, 710i, 750i, or 760i outdoor handheld, a Wi-Fi connection is needed on the device. For instructions on connecting to a Wi-Fi network, refer to your owner's manual.

Things to Keep in Mind With BirdsEye Direct

  • As of software version 14.80, BirdsEye Direct is no longer a standalone option within the main menu of the Montana 700, 700i, and 750i outdoor handhelds, but can be accessed by selecting Satellite Imagery within the Map Manager. For instructions on updating your device software, see - Installing Software Updates to the Montana 700 Series.

  • Wi-Fi will be required to download satellite imagery. A Bluetooth® connection with either the Garmin Explore™ app or Garmin Connect™ app will also be required to validate the included satellite imagery service for the device. For more details on these requirements, see - Requirements to Download Satellite Imagery on a Montana 700 Series.

  • Download only the areas where you are going to need the satellite imagery.

  • Download all needed imagery areas before heading out on your trip.

  • Satellite imagery can only be viewed on the device that it is downloaded to.

  • If viewing the BirdsEye images in BaseCamp™ software is necessary, see - BirdsEye Direct Download Images Not Showing in BaseCamp.

  • There is a total limit of 250 satellite imagery files (JNX files) that can be downloaded.

    • Limit is combined total of BirdsEye imagery files downloaded using BaseCamp software and Satellite Imagery files downloaded using Map Manager on the handheld. Up to 100 of those Satellite Imagery files can be downloaded using Map Manager on the handheld.

  • If the handheld is brand new or was recently restored to factory defaults, it needs to acquire an initial GPS fix prior to using BirdsEye Direct.
