"Locked Maps Detected" or "Unauthenticated Maps" in a Garmin Application

NOTES:
  • In accordance with the Lifetime Maps and Maps Terms and Conditions, map updates and/or Downloadable Content (DLC) are no longer available to download or purchase and cannot be activated and/or associated with the Garmin devices listed in Map Updates and Downloadable Content No Longer Available to Download or Purchase.
  • This is due to these devices not having sufficient memory capacity and other required technical capabilities to utilize current map data.

After installing maps to the computer with Garmin Express™ software, a "Locked maps detected" or "Unauthenticated Maps" message may appear in the BaseCamp™ or MapSource® program. This message typically appears if you are not signed in to an administrator account on the computer.

The easiest way to fix this is to sign in to an administrator account on the computer or to use a different computer with administrator rights. See the additional troubleshooting below if the issue continues.


Windows

If the issue persists after signing into an administrator account, the application itself can be run as an administrator.

To Run the Application as an Administrator:

1. Right-click on the application icon (BaseCamp or MapSource)

2. Click Properties

3. Click the Compatibility tab

4. Ensure Compatibility mode is unchecked

5. Select Run this program as an administrator

6. Click Apply

 

7. Click OK

 

These steps should allow the program to open and use the maps normally.


Follow these Steps if the Above does not Resolve the Locked Maps.:

Uninstall the map from the computer. See Uninstall Garmin Maps from the Computer for instructions.

Windows Only: Run Garmin Express as an Administrator:

The error may be caused by permissions issues for Garmin Express. Running as an administrator may resolve this:

 Run as admin


Then Reinstall the Maps to the Computer After Running Garmin Express Software as an Administrator:

Mac

Ensure you are signed into an admin user account when installing BaseCamp and installing the map to the computer.


A different computer with full administrator rights will be required if the issue continues.
