Using Extended Tracking on an inReach SE or Explorer
Using Extended Tracking mode on an inReach® handheld can increase the battery life by days or even weeks. Messaging and SOS are still available in this mode, but some features are automatically disabled.
For more information on inReach handheld battery life, see - Improving the Battery Life of Garmin inReach Products.
IMPORTANT
An inReach SE® or inReach Explorer® handheld must be updated to firmware version 2.6.3 to use Extended Tracking. To check the firmware version on your inReach device, go to Settings > About This Device.
For information on updating your inReach device, see - Updating inReach Firmware and Syncing Account Changes with inReach Sync.
Enable Extended Tracking
- Select Settings.
- Select Tracking.
- Select Extended Tracking.
- Select On.
- Select OK.
NOTE: The display of the inReach SE or Explorer handheld will confirm that it is in extended tracking mode by displaying the letters XT next to the battery indicator in the status bar of the device.
Extended Tracking will disable several features of the inReach SE/Explorer handheld to conserve the battery life of the unit for tracking. DO NOT use Extended Tracking if you have a need for one or more of the features in the list below.
- Bluetooth
- Message Listens
- Navigation - inReach Explorer only
- Track Logging - inReach Explorer only
Extended Tracking does not change or affect the track Moving/Send Interval for the inReach device. If any of these options are manually turned on after Extended Tracking is enabled, the device will automatically leave the Extended Tracking mode.
