Garmin® Marine Chartplotter not Recognizing an Inserted SD Card
If a chartplotter does not recognize a micro/SD card when inserted, there are a few reasons.
Check the size of the SD card
Some Garmin® Marine chartplotters can utilize up to a 1TB SDHC card, refer to the information below to see which devices can use what card size.
Marine micro/SD Card Requirements
Garmin Marine Device Software Updates
New exFAT support on Garmin Marine Devices
Legacy chartplotter with the software out of date can only read up to a 2GB SD card and must first be updated to read larger SD cards. Update the software with a 2GB SD card and the chartplotter will then be capable of reading up to a 32GB SD card.
Try a different SD card or an Adapter
If the card does not exceed 1TB card, then it is possible that the SD card is damaged or, if using a micro/SD card, the adapter has failed. Try a new SD card or a new adapter.
If trying a new SD card or a new adapter does not resolve the issue the device may need to have the card reader repaired.
