Getting Started With the Garmin Golf App

However you want to elevate your golf game, the Garmin Golf™ app has you covered. You can track your rounds and compete with your friends and fellow golfers on weekly leaderboards at more than 43,000 courses around the world. You can also set up your own tournament events and invite your friends to play along.

Do I Need a Golf Watch to Use the Golf App?

Anyone can use the Garmin Golf app, even if you do not own a golf-capable Garmin® product. The Garmin Golf app is designed to work with phones for easy stat tracking, Garmin product syncing, and other connected features. A Wi-Fi® or cellular data connection is required to utilize the features in the Garmin Golf app. To get started using your Garmin product with the Garmin Golf app, see your owner's manual and search, "Pairing Your Phone".

For Garmin products without Bluetooth®, scorecards can be synced with Garmin Express™ software to view in the Garmin Golf app. For more information on how your Garmin product syncs scorecards, see - Syncing Scorecards to the Garmin Golf app.

Navigating the Golf App

After you open the Garmin Golf app there will be five buttons at the bottom of the screen that will allow you to interact with the app.

The Activity screen is the default home page for the Garmin Golf app. This screen will display your active and completed rounds of golf as well as Tournaments, Golf Simulations, and Driving Range sessions. This screen will also display a brief overview for each activity showing information such as the type of golf activity, course name, and score. You can also select any of your golf activities to view more detailed information.

The horizontal bars of different sizes  Stats

On the Stats screen you can select one of three options listed below:
  • Performance Stats will display an overview of shot data and other statistics. For more information see Garmin Golf Performance Stats and Data Available.

  • Course Stats will display a list of all the courses that you have previously played. For more information see Understanding Course Stats in Garmin Golf and Garmin Connect.

  • Club Stats will display the average and max distances for each of your clubs. 

    NOTE: Garmin uses a proprietary calculation to achieve accurate club averages. We utilize a percentile system which allows us to more closely estimate the average distance for different clubs in your bag. Our calculation will automatically remove erroneous shot data with certain clubs such as half shots and misreads. For more information see - Correcting Golf Club Stats

From this screen you can start recording your round of golf with one of the following options:
  • Select Home Tee Hero to play a virtual round of golf at a course rendered with 3D technology.

    NOTE: Home Tee Hero is only available using the Approach® R10 or Approach® R50.

  • Select Practice to improve your game at the virtual range.

  • Select Weekly Tournament to compete with other golfers from around the world.

  • Select Start a Round to keep score during a real life round.

  • Select Create a Tournament to invite your friends and compete against them in a round.

  • Select Other Simulators to connect and play using compatible simulator apps.

The Profile screen allows you to add and edit your clubs, Garmin devices, adjust your personal information, and view the Leaderboard.
  • The orange tile at the top of the page allows you to edit your personal information or purchase the Garmin Golf™ Membership.

  • The My Bag tile is where you can add, remove, or customize each of the clubs in your bag.

  • The My Devices tile is where you can pair your Garmin Golf compatible device.

  • The Leaderboard tile will show you the current leaderboard information and where you rank.

Keeping Score With the Golf App

Garmin Golf Membership

The Garmin Golf™ Membership Subscription Plan provides additional features such as Green Contours for compatible products, and additional features for the Approach® R10 launch monitor and Approach® R50 launch monitor such as Home Tee Hero, allowing you to play virtual rounds.
