Garmin WebUpdater connects to the Internet to download software updates for GPS devices. Internet connectivity and network connection issues can prevent WebUpdater from communicating with our servers to download updates.

When network issues occur, WebUpdater may display the error message, "Can't communicate with server." Use the following tips and suggestions to resolve.

Network Connection Troubleshooting for Garmin WebUpdater

Use a Private Home Internet Network

Avoid using satellite, fixed wireless, dialup, or mobile broadband such as MiFi, AirCard, or cell phone tethering. Workplace networks and computers should also be avoided as additional security can block WebUpdater from communicating with our servers.

Disable any VPN (Virtual Private Network) or Proxy in Use

If not possible to disable VPNs or proxies, use a different computer and/or network connection.

Disable Third-Party Firewalls in Use

It is not necessary to disable built-in firewalls in Windows or Mac OS but third-party firewalls can block or disrupt the connection. Disabling any third-party firewalls or adding an exception for Garmin WebUpdater can resolve the error.

Use a Wired Internet Connection

If using Wi-Fi, disable Wi-Fi and connect the computer directly to the modem using an Ethernet cable.
