Ability to Post to Social Media From inReach Devices Is No Longer Available

NOTICE: Effective July 1, 2024, the ability to post to Facebook® pages and X (formerly known as Twitter®) from inReach devices is no longer available. Users can still send tracking updates to a LiveTrack™ page from an inReach device, and can send messages as well as tracking updates to a MapShare™ page. You can share your MapShare or LiveTrack link on social media using a computer or mobile device with internet access.

Sharing Your LiveTrack or MapShare Page

The following steps can be used to share your LiveTrack or MapShare page before heading out on a trip. Keep in mind that MapShare must be used if you wish to post messages to your tracking page.

  1. Log in to your account at the Garmin Explore website.

  2. Select either LIVETRACK or MAPSHARE, depending on which option you have available.

NOTE: On mobile browsers, select Two Horizontal Lines Icon in the top left, then LIVETRACK or MAPSHARE.

    • If you have LIVETRACK available, you may be presented with a LiveTrack Location Data Agreement after selecting LIVETRACK.

If you wish to post messages to your tracking page, select Cancel or Opt Out to close out of the agreement, then select Switch to MapShare.

  3. When either LiveTrack or MapShare is enabled your tracking link will be displayed. You can copy the link from here or you can select Share to send the link to someone in an email.

LiveTrack vs. MapShare Link Examples

Posting Updates to MapShare

Messages from your device only go to your MapShare page if you have enabled MapShare on your account and specifically choose MapShare as one of the recipients of the message. Doing so is helpful for letting viewers know when you are heading out, stopping for the night, general check in, etc.

For steps on how to send a message from your inReach device, refer to your owner's manual.

Messages sent to MapShare will appear on your MapShare page at the location from which they were sent:
