Huawei Smartphone Bluetooth Troubleshooting With a Garmin Fitness Device
Bluetooth connection issues between Huawei smartphones and Garmin devices have been improved through an update to the Garmin Connect™ app. In order to take advantage of this improvement, follow the steps below.
NOTE: Improvements have been made to Huawei smartphones running operating version 9 or higher. The phone must natively support Google Play Store.
Checking for Updates and Repairing the Bluetooth Connection
Step 1: Update the Garmin Connect App
You can install the latest version of the Garmin Connect app via the Google Play Store:
Step 2: Remove Your Garmin Device From the Garmin Connect App
Access the phone's settings menu and select Bluetooth.
Under PAIRED DEVICES select the icon next to the Garmin device you are removing.
Select Unpair.
Step 3: Add Your Garmin Device Back to the Garmin Connect App
Turn on the Garmin device.
Place the Garmin device into pairing mode. This is usually phone under Settings > Phone. For specific instructions refer to your owner's manual.
Open the Garmin Connect app.
Access the menu by selecting More (bottom right).
Select Garmin Devices.
Select Add Device.
At this point, the app should detect your Garmin device. If not, make sure that it is still in pairing mode.
Follow the on-screen instructions from the app to complete the setup process.
Step 4: Check to Make Sure the Software on Your Garmin Device Is up to Date
We have previously released updates to further improve the Bluetooth connection between your phone and your Garmin device. The Garmin Connect app automatically checks and installs available software updates over time. To check for and immediately install any available updates, connect your Garmin device to a personal computer, then download and install Garmin Express™ software.
I Followed the Step Above but Continue to Have Connection Issues
It may also be necessary to adjust the App Launch settings on the phone to allow the Garmin Connect app to run in the background. Be advised that these steps may vary between different phone models. For specific instructions, refer to your phone's manual. The following steps are provided as a general guide:
Swipe down from the top of the home screen.
Select the Settings cog icon.
Select Battery.
Select App Launch.
Choose the Garmin Connect app.
Ensure Auto-launch and Run in background are enabled within the battery settings:
I Am Not Getting Notifications From My Huawei Phone on My Garmin Device
If you are not receiving any smart notifications on your Garmin device, complete the steps below.
NOTE: The following are general steps and may not match your particular phone. If you cannot find these settings, contact your phone manufacturer for specific instructions.
Step 1: Enable Notification Access for the Garmin Connect App
Open the phone's Settings menu.
Select the magnifying glass icon at the top of the screen.
Input “Access” into the search box.
Select Notification Access or Access to Notifications.
On some phones, you may need to select Special Access first.
Enable access to notifications for the Garmin Connect app.
Step 2: Ignore Battery Optimizations for the Garmin Connect App
Open the phone's Settings menu.
Select Apps.
Select Advanced.
Select Ignore Battery Optimizations.
Find Connect and ignore it.
Step 3: Activate "Allow Notifications" and "Priority Display" for the Garmin Connect App
Open the phone's Settings menu.
Select Notification panel & status bar.
Select Notification Center.
Find Connect, then activate allow notifications and priority display.
