Using the Alpha 300 with Garmin BaseCamp on a Mac with OS 11 and Newer

By default, the Alpha® 300 and Alpha® 300i devices will not be recognized by Garmin BaseCamp™ on Mac OS 11 or newer. To resolve this, you will need to use the Android File Transfer program.

NOTE: Android File Transfer is a third-party tool and Garmin does not develop, support, or host the download for Android File Transfer. Success using the tool is not guaranteed.

  1. Download and install Android File Transfer to your Mac computer.

  2. Connect your Garmin device to the computer using the USB data/charging cable.

  3. Quit Android File Transfer completely, and ensure all Garmin applications are closed.

    • If Android File Transfer will not launch you may have the Garmin Express™ program running in the background, preventing Android File Transfer from opening. See - Force Quit Garmin Express.

  4. Open Garmin BaseCamp.
NOTE: If you are not seeing the device in Garmin BaseCamp after installing Android File Viewer, try unplugging the device and plugging it back again. Android File Viewer may have opened automatically, make sure it is fully closed again.
