Importing GPX Files into BaseCamp and Transferring the Data to a Garmin Marine Handheld

GPX files can come from various sources and contain data such as routes, tracks, waypoints, and geocaches.

These files can be imported into our BaseCamp program to review on a computer and then transferred to a compatible handheld Garmin.


Importing and Transferring GPX Files

First, import the GPX file(s) into BaseCamp with the following steps.

  1. Open BaseCamp

  2. Select the File drop-down menu from the top toolbar

  3. Select Import

  4. Browse to the GPX file location from the Import File window

  5. Select Open for Windows or Import for Mac

Once the GPX file has loaded, it can be transferred to the handheld.


Transferring GPX Files to a Garmin Outdoor Handheld

Select the data and transfer it with the steps below.


Windows
  1. Connect the Garmin to the computer

  2. Select the data to send

      1. Select an item, list, or multiple items (using CTRL+Click or Shift+Click)

      2. Select the Device drop-down menu

      3. Hover over Send To Device

    1. Select Send ['Name'] to Device, or  Send Selection to Device

      1. Select the My Collection folder

      2. Select the Device drop-down menu

      3. Hover over Send To Device

    2. Select Send 'My Collection' to Device

  3. Select the device to send the selected data

  4. Select OK

The selected data now transfers to the handheld.

Mac
  1. Connect the Garmin to the computer

  2. Select the data to send

      1. Select a list, or the My Collection folder

      2. Select an item, or multiple items (using Command+Click or Shift+Click)

    1. Click and drag the highlighted items to the Garmin in the upper left-hand corner

      1. Select a list, or the My Collection folder

      2. Select the Transfer drop-down menu

      3. Select Send ['Name'] to Device

      4. Check the boxes for the data to send

    2. Select Send to send a list of all saved data to the Gamin


The selected data now transfers to the handheld.
