Maintenance and Care for a NEO Series Smart Trainer
NEO Smart trainers are designed to be maintenance free. Over time it is possible for the trainer to generate a bit of noise or require cleaning. This FAQ is designed to solve most noise or cleaning related issues for the following trainers:
Tacx® NEO Smart Trainer
Tacx® NEO 2 Smart Trainer
Tacx® NEO 2T Smart Trainer
Free Hub Greasing
A cracking sound when riding can be due to the need for the axle and cassette body needing grease. In addition we also recommend the cleaning of the cassette. This process should be performed on an annual basis.
Listen here for an example: Cracking sound when riding
Tools Needed:
5mm Allen Key
Grease
Instructions:
- Use the 5mm allen key to remove the free hub including the cassette from your bike trainer. Both free hub and cassette can be removed together.
- Remove the black cylinder from the axles and grease the inside and outside.
Place the cylinder back inside the free hub, inspect the free hub pawls and body for damage, and re-assemble the free hub and cassette on the bike trainer. Make sure the cassette and free hub are tightly secured.
Add a drop of freehub lubricant to the pawls if needed.
Disc Cleaning
The NEO Smart is equipped with 32 very strong Neodymium magnets. These magnets are so strong that it might attract metal dust, which could get trapped between the rotating parts. If this occurs it will generate a metal or scraping sound coming from behind the metal disc.
Tools Needed:
NOTE: The extractor tool for the NEO and NEO 2 (part number T2800.95) is no longer available.
