How to reset an Approach Handheld

There are two resets that can be performed if you are having issues with an Approach® G-Series golf handheld not functioning as expected. A soft reset used when the Approach handheld is unresponsive or will not power on or off. A master reset used for problems with satellite reception, general functionality issues or restoring factory default settings (all user information, with the exception of saved scorecards, will be erased with a master reset).

To soft reset:

  1. Press and hold the Power button
  2. Wait up to 30 seconds until device powers on/off
  3. Release the Power button

The Approach golf handheld will now function properly. If the device is still unresponsive, connect the handheld to the computer and then follow the above steps again.

To master reset the Approach G3, G5, G6 or G7 handheld:

  1. Power off device
  2. Press and hold on the upper left corner of display
  3. Power device on while still maintaining pressure on display
  4. Release display when it says "Do you really want to erase all user data?"
  5. Touch Yes

To master reset the Approach G30 handheld:

  1. Power on device
  2. Wait until text appears at the bottom of the screen
  3. Press and hold on the upper left corner of display
  4. Release display when it says "Do you really want to erase all user data?"
  5. Touch Yes

The reset on the Approach handheld is successful if the device power-cycles and boots into the setup wizard.

If an Approach G6/G7 handheld fails to respond to a prompted reset, a non-prompted reset can be performed.

To perform a non-prompted reset of the G6/G7 handheld:

  1. Turn the device off
  2. Press and hold Score/Measure and Green View/Pin Pointer
  3. Press and release Power
  4. Release Score/Measure and Green View/Pin Pointer when the Garmin Logo disappears

If done properly, the initial setup screen will appear shortly.

The device should now be reset to default factory settings, and should function as expected. Leave the device outside with a clear view of the sky for up to 20 minutes to acquire satellite data.
