Transferring Existing inReach Service to Another inReach Device

The Steps Below Walk through Transferring the Current inReach® Satellite Communication Service to Another inReach Device for the Following Scenarios:

  • Exchanged a device for a replacement device

  • Swapping between two devices on one Personal account

  • Upgraded to a new device

NOTES:
  • IMPORTANT: Professional and Flex Team accounts must reach out to the Professional Support team for any device transfers. Contact Professional Support.

  • Transferring service is able to be done whether it is active or suspended, but if suspended, the device being transferred to will also be suspended. If the plan is suspended, syncing only updates the device firmware and service cannot be tested. In this case it will be best to wait until service is reactivated to sync and test the device.

Switching inReach Service to Another Device

Use these steps whenever switching service is needed.

  1. Log in to the Garmin Explore website.

  2. Select Plan & Devices.
    NOTE: On mobile browsers, select Two Horizontal Lines Icon in the top left, then Plans & Devices.

  3. Select Add inReach Device.

  4. Select Add Device and Move Service.

  5. Using the drop-down, select the current active inReach device.

  6. Enter the new or replacement device IMEI number and authorization code.

    • TIP: If you need help finding the IMEI number and authorization code, select one of the device images in the Switch Service window and instructions will be provided.

  7. Select Switch.

    • Service will begin transferring to the new device. This may take several minutes.

      • While transfers typically take 10-15 minutes, it can take upwards of an hour. The amount of time depends on how many other users are activating or upgrading service. 

    • If Switch is not seen, try hovering the mouse over the Switch Service prompt and scroll down (Switch will be located at the very bottom of the prompt). If Switch is still not seen, try increasing the screen resolution to at least 1280x1024. For steps, select your operating system:

  8. Once complete, select OK.

  9. Sync account changes to the new inReach.

NOTE: If you are switching service to a new device and also planning to sell or give away your old device, be sure to reset it first. See your owner's manual for reset instructions

Verify That the Subscription is Active
