Automotive Devices that Display POI Icons on the Map

Your device will display icons for nearby Points of Interest (POIs) (such as restaurants or gas stations) when you are navigating a route and have the Up Ahead Places map layer enabled. There may be times you want to enable, disable (remove) the icons on the map or change which POI categories appear.

To Enable or Disable the Up Ahead Places Map Layer

  1. Touch Settings

  2. Touch Map & Vehicle or Map Display

  3. Scroll down and touch Map Layers

    • Enable: Touch to add a checkmark on Places along the road or Up Ahead Places.

    • Disable: Touch to remove a checkmark on Places along the road or Up Ahead Places.

  4. Touch Save or OK

    • Some devices skip this step.

You can change which nearby POIs are displayed by accessing the Map Tools feature on the device map.

To Change which POI Categories are Displayed

  1. Touch View Map

  2. Touch the  menu icon in the lower right corner to open Map Tools

    • Some devices may display a  menu or  wrench icon, or menu in this spot.

  3. Touch Up Ahead. On the right side of the screen, the device will display icons or descriptions of the POI categories displayed on the map.

  4. Touch any of the icon categories on the right

  5. Touch the wrench icon in the upper left corner

  6. Touch the category you wish to change

  7. Touch the + icon next to the desired POI category or Custom Search a business name or category

  8. If desired, hold down and drag the  arrow icons on the right to change the order of the categories

  9. Touch Save

For POI icons to be visible, your device must be in an active route (i.e. the device is currently navigating to a specific point) and the map must be zoomed in to at least 0.8 miles. The farther zoomed out the map is, the fewer POI icons will be displayed. Beyond 0.8 miles, only the icons for saved locations will be shown.

Although POI icons will be visible in all three map views, the zoom level will only be shown in the North Up and Track Up views.

To Change the Map View on Your Device

  1. Touch Settings

  2. Touch Map & Vehicle or Map Display

  3. Touch Driving Map View

  4. Select the desired map view

  5. Touch Save

    • Some devices skip this step.

The map view will now be changed.

If saved icons are missing from the map, visit the Support Center, enter your product name, and search for "Saved Icons No Longer Appear on the Map of the Automotive Device"
