TrainingPeaks Workout Changes When Loaded to a Garmin Device
TrainingPeaks features a Workout Builder that allows you to create a variety of custom running and cycling workout types based on duration or distance as well as a target value or range. It is important to note that workouts that are sent from TrainingPeaks to your Garmin Connect™ account to then sync over to a Garmin device will not display an exact target value. This is because target values automatically enable alerts on the Garmin device that cannot be disabled. Having a single value would result in the device constantly alerting you if the exact value is not maintained. The value is automatically converted into a target range.
Example of a Target Range
A workout that calls for a target power value of 125 watts during warm up will display as a range with the original value now shown as the median value within the range (e.g. 117-133 watts).
This will be the case for any target value that you choose whether it be power, speed, or heart rate.
Syncing Structured Workouts from TrainingPeaks to Garmin Connect Account
When Garmin Connect Calendar sync is enabled in TrainingPeaks, any eligible future workouts that have been created using the Structured Workout Builder will sync directly to your Garmin Connect Calendar so that they can be sent to your device. Your Garmin device will automatically download upcoming calendar items when you sync. Calendar workouts will appear under Training Plans or Training Calendar on your device.
If changes are made to a workout in TrainingPeaks after it has already synced to the Garmin Connect calendar, the changes will not automatically sync to the workout that is in the Garmin Connect calendar. To work around this limitation, you can reschedule the workout to a different day in TrainingPeaks to prompt it to sync with the Garmin Connect calendar again, then move it back to the original day it had been scheduled for in TrainingPeaks.
NOTE: Garmin devices will only support workouts with 50 steps or less. As a workaround, you can utilize repeats rather than creating individual new steps.
