"The item can't be moved to the trash" Error When I Try to Delete Files From my Garmin Device

The error "The item '[example.abc]' can't be moved to the Trash because it can't be deleted" appears when a file that does not have Read & Write permissions is moved to the Trash. If this occurs while deleting a file from a Garmin GPS, it is likely that the Garmin disk drive is connected as Read-only.

To verify this:

1. Open Finder
2. Click Go in the menu bar
3. Click Computer
4. Right-click the Garmin drive (Hold Control + click to right-click on a mouse with one button)
5. Select Get Info
6. Click the arrow next to Sharing & Permissions if this section is not already expanded

The message You can read and write will appear if the drive is connected with the proper permissions.

If the message You can only read is displayed instead, follow these steps to resolve the issue:

1. Close the Get Info window
2. Drag the Garmin drive to the Trash to eject the device  
3. Disconnect the USB cable from the GPS
4. Turn off the device (if necessary)
5. Connect the device to the Mac

Once the device has been ejected and power cycled, files may be deleted from the device.
