DESCRIPTION

Excess epoxy may be present in the connector of configuration modules with jackscrew-type backshells shipped prior to May 2010.  The epoxy can prevent the configuration module harness from seating correctly and may result in a poor electrical connection. If a configuration module loses connection with the harness during normal operation, a failure annunciation will be displayed when the system attempts to write data to the configuration module or when reading data from the configuration module during system power-up.

PILOT ACTION

If loss of the configuration module connection occurs, a failure annunciation is provided. If a failure annunciation occurs, contact a Garmin Avionics dealer for service.

RESOLUTION

Garmin will replace configuration module sub assemblies which were shipped prior to May 2010 if there is excess epoxy in the connector. Return to service instructions for a configuration module replacement can be found in the respective product installation manual.

Garmin recommends that if a display product reports that an LRU listed in Table 1 has failed, the configuration module connector should be inspected to ensure it is properly connected and free of excess epoxy. This inspection should be performed prior to the documented troubleshooting procedures.
