Differences Between Maps on Preloaded Cards and Downloadable Content

Maps for Garmin devices are sold as pre-programmed data cards or as direct downloads.

Important Items to Note When Choosing a Purchase Option

Review the Requirements tab and Compatible devices tab on the specific map product page to ensure your device will work with the selected map and format.
Not all formats are available with all map offerings. The available formats for the specific map product will be listed under Format on the map product page.
For both pre-programmed data cards and Downloadable Content (DLC), the map cannot be updated. If you wish to have updated map content, a new map must be purchased.
- TopoActive and City Navigator® maps that come already installed on select Garmin devices can be updated using Garmin Express™ software.

Pre-Programmed Data Cards	Downloadable Content (DLC)
The recommended method to purchase and use additional maps. Ready for immediate use, no setup required. The card can be moved between compatible Garmin devices. Cannot be removed, transferred, or combined with other pre-programmed data cards or internal memory of a device. The order takes an additional 1 to 3 business days to process before shipping.	Must be downloaded using Garmin Express program and a high-speed internet connection. Can be downloaded immediately after purchase. May be downloaded to the device, or to your own SD card if the device has insufficient space. The required size of the SD card may vary depending on the size of the DLC map and on the device's card requirements. For more information, see Related below.
