Ways to lessen constant noise on a VHF radio while in high traffic areas

VHF radios pick up signals from other boats and can also receive interference while in high traffic areas or in areas with a lot of electromagnetic interference like areas around cell phone towers.

If the radio is receiving noise or interference in these areas, changing the radio's sensitivity setting may help resolve this issue. To change this setting, please follow these directions:

1. Power ON the radio by pressing the 16/9 button
2. Press the Hi/Lo button
3. Press the Middle Soft Key button to change the setting between Local and Distance
   1. Local will decrease the sensitivity of the radio and will help when in high noise areas
   2. Distance will increase the sensitivity of the radio and will help when in remote areas
4. Press the Right Soft Key button labeled OK to accept the change

Changing the setting to Local should decrease the amount of noise in high traffic areas.
