Purchase and Add a Traffic Subscription for Compatible Kenwood Devices

With your Kenwood system featuring Garmin navigation, you can purchase an additional traffic subscription to provide unlimited access to traffic. A traffic subscription will allow you to plan efficient routes and avoid traffic delays. 

Not all Kenwood systems use traffic subscriptions purchased through Garmin. See Kenwood Devices that with Traffic Provided by INRIX to determine if your system receives traffic through the INRIX traffic service.

To purchase the traffic subscription for your compatible Kenwood system, you will need a blank SD card or USB flash drive between 4 GB and 32 GB in size. Refer to your owner's manual to determine if you need to use an SD card or USB flash drive. Once you have the required media, you will need to prepare it to purchase the subscription. To do this, you will need to first go to the vehicle to prepare the blank media.

To Prepare the Media: 

1. Insert the blank media into the radio

2. Touch Nav or Navigation to access your navigation system

3. Touch Settings on the navigation's main page

4. Touch Device

5. Touch Update Map

6. Touch OK when the information for the navigation system has been written to the media

Once you have prepared the media, you will need to return to your computer and use our Garmin Express application to purchase the traffic subscription. 

To Purchase the Traffic Subscription: 

1. Download and install Garmin Express

2. Click Add a Device and follow prompts to add the device to Garmin Express

3. Click Store

4. Select your Country and click Continue

5. Click Real-time Traffic

6. Click the price button

7. Sign in to your account or create an account and complete the purchase process

After completing the purchase process, you will be provided with two 25 character traffic subscription unlock codes. Write down or print the traffic subscription unlock codes. You will need to return to the vehicle and activate your traffic subscription with these codes. 

To Activate the Traffic Service:

1. Touch Settings on the navigation's main page

2. Touch Traffic

3. Touch Traffic Subscriptions

4. Touch + in the upper left corner

5. Click Next

6. Enter the first traffic subscription unlock code

7. Repeat steps 4-6 with the second unlock code

The traffic service is now activated. Allow the device to receive GPS signal along with the traffic signal. This process may take up to 20 minutes.
