(2023) Service Advisory 23009 Rev C: Display of traffic targets while Basic Surface Situational Awareness (SURF) is active

REVISION C:

Added Resolution

PRODUCTS AFFECTED:

GTX 45R, GTX 345(R), and GTX 345D(R) units with ADS-B In software versions 3.20, 3.21, and 3.22 are affected if GTX Non-Performing Emitter (NPE) processing is enabled, and used for display of traffic information on any of the following Garmin traffic displays.

GTX 45R, GTX 345(R), and GTX 345D(R) units with ADS-B In software versions 3.30, 3.31, and 3.40 are affected if GTX NPE processing is disabled, and used for display of traffic information on any of the following Garmin traffic displays.

NOTE
NPEs are disabled in certified aircraft. In uncertified aircraft, NPEs may be enabled or disabled.

  • G500/600
  • G500/600/700 TXi
  • GTN™
  • GTN Xi
  • GI 275
  • GPS 175
  • GNC® 355
  • G1000® NXi
  • G2000®, G3000®, and G5000®

ISSUE:

Some traffic targets may not be shown when the GTX 45R, GTX 345(R), and GTX 345D(R) is receiving ADS-B data from NPEs and the SURF application is active. The SURF application becomes active near an airport (within 5 NM and 1,500 feet above it).

Traffic targets that are erroneously not displayed are typically the lowest priority targets. Aural traffic alerts are not impacted. For installations where the GTX 45R, GTX 345(R), and GTX 345D(R) is integrated with a TAS/TCAS, the display of TAS/TCAS targets with active resolution advisory (RA) or traffic advisory (TA) alerts are also not impacted.

PILOT ACTION:

Be aware that some traffic targets may not be shown.

This has been fixed in GTX 345DR ADS-B Software Version 3.32. Refer to Garmin TSO Service Bulletin 23042.
