Activating an inReach Messenger on an inReach Professional Account

The steps in this article are for activating and managing inReach Messenger devices as the administrator on an existing inReach Professional Flex account. If you are needing to set up a new account, see - Setting Up a New inReach Professional Account.

Adding an inReach Messenger to a Professional Account

  1. Go to the Garmin Explore website and sign in.
  2. Select Plans & Devices.

  3. Click Add Device.

  4. Fill in the IMEI and Authorization Code.
    NOTE: Select Add Another to add additional inReach devices.

Fill in information required 

    1. Select a Plan.
    2. Assign the device.
      NOTE: The user can be assigned later. See steps below.
    3. Accept the Terms and Conditions.
    4. Click Add Devices.

Adding a User to the Account

  1. Go to the Garmin Explore website and sign in.
  2. Select Groups & Users.

  3. Click Add User.

  4. Fill in the required fields and click Save when done.
    NOTE: While each user has to have a unique email address, fields such as emergency contact information can be shared between all users.

Assigning Users to inReach Devices

Use these steps if a user was not assigned when adding the inReach device, or if the assigned user needs to be changed.

  1. Go to the Garmin Explore website and sign in.
  2. Select Plans & Devices.

  3. Click the box to the left of 15-digit IMEI number for the inReach device.

  4. SelectThree Dots Icon at the far right for the device.

  5. Click Assign User.

  6. Click Select a User and then select a user in the drop-down.

  7. Click Assign.
  8. Reload or refresh the page to see the changes.

Updating the inReach Messenger With the Garmin Messenger App

After activating an inReach Messenger, it can be used with the Garmin Messenger app on a user's smartphone to access additional features and receive any necessary updates. Any account related changes will automatically be synced to the inReach Messenger when it is connected and the mobile phone has a data connection.

When pairing the inReach Messenger in the Garmin Messenger app, use the log in credentials assigned to the device. For detailed pairing instructions, see - Pairing an inReach Messenger With a Smartphone.


Registering the inReach Messenger

The inReach Messenger is registered automatically during activation of service to the device, or adding it to your Garmin Explore account. The inReach Messenger can also be added to Garmin Express to register the device and check for software updates.
