Viewing Multiple Maps With the Garmin Explore App

There are two types of maps that can be downloaded in the Garmin Explore app: Area Maps and High Detail Maps. Available map options are dependent on the region.

Area Maps Include:

  • Digital Atlas of Earth
  • OpenStreetMap
  • Topo North America

High Detail Maps Include:

  • Color Aerial
  • USGS Quad Sheets

For a full description of the maps, select Maps from Map Layer Icon then Question Mark. Any of the options can be selected for more details.

Accessing the Map Selection Screen

  1. Open the Explore app.
  2. Select Map Layer Icon.
  3. Select Maps.

The map layers will display at the bottom of the page with toggles for each downloaded map and options. You may have to scroll down the list to see all of them.

Important Notes

  • The option to display Hybrid maps allows for Area maps (except OpenStreetMap) to be displayed on top of High Detail maps.
  • The Prefer on Map option only works between Topo North America and OpenStreetMap. OpenStreetMap is always preferred over Digital Atlas of the Earth, regardless of the toggle state.
  • When OpenStreetMap is selected as the preferred map, the High Detail maps will not be displayed.
