Radar Option is Missing

If a radar is being used with a Garmin Marine Chartplotter and the radar cannot be seen by the chartplotter or if the chartplotter displays a "Radar Service Lost" error, there are some troubleshooting steps that can help to resolve the issue.

Updating Software
      • Especially if the radar has been newly installed, but in all cases, begin by updating the software on the chartplotter. For instructions on updating software, see Related Content below.

Checking Power
      • With the radar turned off, check the fuse in the power cable. If the fuse has blown, replace it with a properly rated fuse (Check the radar's installation instructions for proper fuse ratings).
      • Check the cable for any loose connections. Repair or replace the cable as needed.
      • If a voltage converter box is installed (only on some open array radars), check the voltage (10-40VDC) that is present at the input to the voltage converter box, then measure the voltage of the 15 meter cable at the radar's end. They should be nearly identical.
        • Note:  You must connect the converter to the boat battery through an appropriately sized fuse. All xHD2 radars that utilize the voltage converter will include a 30A slow blow fuse. For xHD radars that utilize voltage converters, a 15A slow blow fuse (not included) will be required. For more information, please consult the radar's installation manual.

Testing with Known Working Network Cable
    • Inspect the network cable running from the chartplotter to the radar for damage at both ends. If possible, check the cable for continuity with a network cable tester. If the cable ends have recently been replaced, refer to the Marine Ethernet Installation Instructions to ensure proper installation. If the cable is faulty, repair or replace as needed. If the radar is connected to a device that has multiple network ports, try a different network port on the device.
    • If a GMS 10 is installed, check the LEDs above the ports on the GMS 10 where the radar and chartplotter are connected. The LEDs should be blinking. If the LEDs are not blinking, check the network cable running from the chartplotter and/or radar to the GMS 10. Try connecting the radar/chartplotter network cable to a different port on the GMS 10. Repair or replace the network cable as needed.
      • Note: If the GMS 10 has a bad port, contact Marine Product Support to setup a repair.
    • Finally, connect the radar to a compatible, working chartplotter and turn on the device. If the radar does not appear on the network list of this device, the radar will need to be repaired. Contact Marine Product Support to setup a Return Merchandise Authorization (RMA).
