Taking and Retrieving a Screenshot on an Outdoor Handheld

It is possible for your Garmin handheld to take a screenshot of what is currently displayed on the screen. Similar to smartphone screenshots, this can be helpful for sharing what you saw on a screen with others, or if requested by Product Support for troubleshooting.

In order to use this feature, you first need to enable it. Steps for this and retrieving the screenshots can be found below.

Enabling Screen Capture for Most Handhelds

NOTE: Older legacy handheld models or handhelds that lack a color display may not have a Screen Capture option.

  1. Select Setup from the main menu.
  2. Select Display.
  3. Select Screen Capture.
  4. Select On.

Once turned on, you can take a screen shot of any screen by quickly pressing Power.


Enabling Screen Capture for the Montana® 700 Series

  1. Select Setup from the main menu.
  2. Select System.
  3. Select Power Key.
  4. Select Single Tap or Double Tap.
  5. Select Screen Capture.

Once changed, you can take a screen shot of any screen by quickly pressing Power.


Enabling Screenshots for the inReach® Mini 2

  1. From the home page, press OK to open the main menu.
  2. Select Settings.
  3. Select System.
  4. Select Screenshots to toggle the feature on.

Once changed, you can take a screen shot of any screen by pressing and holding the Up and OK buttons simultaneously.


Enabling Screenshots for the inReach® Messenger

  1. From the home page, press Left Arrow Button or Right Arrow Button to scroll through the main menu.
  2. Select Settings Wrench.
  3. Select System Gear Wheel.
  4. Select Screenshots to toggle the feature on.

Once changed, you can take a screen shot of any screen by pressing and holding the Up and OK buttons simultaneously.


Screen Capture for the eTrex® SE

  1. With the device turned on
  2. Hold OK & Back
  3. A Screenshot will be captured

Retrieving the Screenshots

The screenshots can be viewed and retrieved when the device is connected to the computer.


Windows

  1. Connect the Garmin device to the computer.
  2. Press the Windows key + E on the keyboard to open Windows Explorer/File Explorer.
  3. Select This PC (Windows 10 & 11 only).
  4. Open the Garmin drive listed.
    Windows 10/11
    Windows 10 Outdoor Device Drive
    Windows 7/8
    Windows 7 and 8 Outdoor Device Drive
  5. Open the Garmin folder.
  6. Open the Scrn or ScreenShot folder.

All of the screenshots taken on the device will now appear.


Mac

  1. Connect the Garmin device to the computer.
  2. Open Finder.
  3. Select Go in the menu bar at the top of the screen.
  4. Select Computer.
  5. Open the Garmin drive.
  6. Garmin Drive Location in Finder
  7. Open the Garmin folder.
  8. Open the Scrn or ScreenShot folder.

All of the screenshots taken on the device will now appear.
