No GPS Signal on a Garmin Chartplotter Using an NMEA 2000 Antenna
The GPS 19x NMEA 2000 (discontinued model GPS17x NNEA 2000) connects to an NMEA 2000 network in order to provide GPS position to marine devices.
If a connected chartplotter is not acquiring satellites, the most common solution is to verify proper installation. A properly connected NMEA 2000 network will look like the following image:
The full installation instructions for the above devices can be found in Installation Manuals. Some device manuals may be listed in the Discontinued products section.
If the antenna is installed properly, it will show on the NMEA 2000 Device List. To verify the antenna is showing on the device list, follow these steps:
GPSMAP 4xxx, 5xxx, 6xxx or 7xxx series devices: Press Configure > Communications > NMEA 2000 Setup > Device List
GPSMAP 7xx, 8xx, 9xx, 10xx, 12xx, 74xx / 76xx, and 8xxx series devices: Press Options > Settings > Communications > NMEA 2000 Setup > Device List
If the antenna does not show on the device list, verify that the NMEA 2000 network has been properly configured. For more information on the proper installation and configuration of an NMEA 2000 network, see the Technical Reference for Garmin NMEA 2000 Products.
