Garmin Autopilots' unable to receive GPS data from a Garmin Chartplotter after having a Mercury Vessel View 7 installed

The Mercury Vessel View 7 is a MFD (Multi-Function Display) made by Mercury that is shipped without an antenna and will pickup GPS data from a directly connected Garmin MFD. When this happens, the Vessel View 7 will send out route information to the Garmin Autopilot. This causes the data from the Garmin MFD to be ignored by the autopilot.

To correct this issue, follow these steps to disable the Autopilot output from the Mercury Vessel View 7:

  1. On the Vessel View 7, press the "Go To/Pages" physical button three times
  2. Press the "System" button on the touchscreen
    1. If this button is not visible, press the "Settings" button on the touchscreen
  3. Press the "Advanced..." button on the touchscreen located at the bottom of the list
  4. Press the "Features" button on the touchscreen
  5. Un-check "Autopilot" by pressing the check box on the touchscreen
  6. Select "Yes" when prompted to restart

At this point, the Vessel View 7 will stop sending out Autopilot data so the Garmin Autopilot will start receiving route data from the Garmin MFD.
