Pairing a Garmin Device With a Car's Bluetooth System
Garmin devices equipped with Bluetooth technology cannot pair directly with Bluetooth stereo systems in vehicles.
Instead, Bluetooth-enabled Garmin devices pair with compatible mobile phones and smartphone apps to share information, deliver features, and enhance your experience. Of note:
- Some Garmin GPS navigator models may also pair with a Bluetooth headset. See Bluetooth Headset Compatibility with Automotive Devices for more information.
- Some nüvi GPS navigators pair directly to Bluetooth phones to take handsfree phone calls.
- Numerous Garmin automotive devices provide the option for handsfree phone calls and have music controls for viewing and managing audio playing from your connected smartphone to your vehicle stereo. See Automotive Devices with the Media Player, Music Controls or Music Player App.
- Garmin GPS navigators equipped with Amazon Alexa and paired with the Garmin Drive app can take handsfree phone calls, play navigation instructions, music and more. This can be done through the navigator's speaker or your car stereo, as long as your smartphone can already stream to your car stereo. With Alexa built-in, you can ask to play music, listen to audiobooks, hear the news and more — all while keeping your hands on the wheel and eyes on the road.
- Other Garmin smartphone apps deliver device-specific features, while making access to your information and services more convenient.
