Using a GPS 19x HVS Antenna With an echoMAP Device

The echoMAP, echoMAP CHIRP and echoMAP Plus series devices have an internal antenna. However, if they are mounted in such a fashion that prevents them from acquiring a satellite signal, an external antenna may be required. A GPS 19x HVS antenna may be connected via NMEA 0183, as long as the device's software is up to date. Please refer to the Related Content for instructions on updating software.

To connect the GPS 19x HVS antenna to your echoMAP series device:

 GPS 19x HVS
 Red Power
 Black Ground
 White/Orange Ground

GPS 19x HVSechoMAP 50s/dv and echoMAP 70s/dv series
 Orange Orange
 White Blue
 Gray Brown

GPS 19x HVSechoMAP/echoMAP CHIRP /echoMAP Plus 4x/5x/7x/9x (dv/sv)
Orange**
WhiteBlue
GrayBrown

The White/Red and Purple wires from the GPS 19x HVS will be left disconnected. The Red wire from the GPS 19x will go to the positive power terminal and the Black and White/Orange wire will go to the same ground as the echoMAP/echoMAP CHIRP. If the Blue and Brown wires on the echoMAP 50/70 device are already in use, use Gray instead of Blue and Violet instead of Brown.

On the echoMAP/echoMAP CHIRP series, please ensure the port being used is set to NMEA High Speed*

  1. From the Home screen, select Settings
  2. Select Communications
  3. Select the Serial Port you are using (Serial Port 1 for Blue/Brown, Serial Port 2 for Gray/Violet)
  4. Select NMEA High Speed

*If the orange limiter cable is being used, then the port would be set to NMEA Standard

**When wiring the GPS 19x HVS to an echoMAP/echoMAP CHIRP 4x/5x/7x/9x(dv or sv) a switch will need to be installed between the orange wire on the antenna and the grounding terminal on the battery.
