Backing up User Data for a 2xxx Series Device
NOTE: HomePort has been discontinued. For additional information regarding the discontinuation, see HomePort Application Discontinued
It is a good idea to backup user data periodically in case anything happens to the device.
To backup user data for a GPSMAP 21xx or 22xx series chartplotter, a few items will need to be purchased:
Blank Garmin Data Card (Card must be 128MB or smaller)
Garmin Data Card Programmer
HomePort mapping software for a PC
Once the above items are purchased, HomePort will need to be installed on a PC.
To backup the user data from the device to the card, follow these instructions:
Insert the Garmin Data Card into the device
Power ON the device
Press and hold the ADJ MENU button to access the Main Menu
Highlight the Card tab on the left side of the screen
Press the button located directly below the words To Card that appear in the lower left corner of the screen
The information is now being backed up to the data card
Remove the data card from the device when the transfer is complete
Insert the data card into the data card programmer that is attached to the PC
Open the HomePort software
The USB Data Card Programmer should appear on the left hand side of the HomePort software
If the USB Data Card Programmer does not appear in HomePort, the drivers for the programmer may need to be updated. For instructions on updating the drivers, please review the Related Content
Right-click on the folder called All Data that appears below the programmer
Select Send To
Select My Collection
At this point, the data will be saved onto the computer and the data card can be disconnected.
