The Garmin Drive App is a free smartphone application allowing you to connect a compatible automotive device and a compatible smartphone.  You can add additional live features to your Garmin device through your phone's existing mobile data plan, such as weather, traffic, and more.

Points of Interest (POIs)

A point of interest is a place you may find useful or interesting. Points of interest are organized by category and can include popular travel destinations such as gas stations, restaurants, hotels, and entertainment venues.

Trip Planner or Route Planner

The trip planner or Route Planner is used to create and save a trip. This can be useful for planning a future delivery route, vacation, or road trip.  You can edit a saved trip to customize it, including reordering locations, optimizing the order of stops, adding scheduling information, and adding shaping points.  You can also use the trip planner to edit and save your active route.  This feature is called "Routes" on some older models.

Route Preview

Shows a preview of the major roads in your route when you start navigation.

Calculation Mode or Route Preference

Sets the route calculation method (i.e. Faster Time, Shorter Distance, etc.)

Avoidances

Sets road features to avoid on a route (i.e. U-Turns, Highways, Unpaved Roads, etc.)

Custom Avoidances

Allows you to avoid specific roads or areas.

Toll Roads

Sets preferences for avoiding toll roads.

Tolls and Fees

Sets preferences for avoiding toll roads and toll stickers. NOTE: This feature is not available in all areas.

Environmental Zones

Sets the avoidance preferences for areas with environmental or emissions restrictions that may apply to your vehicle.

Restricted Mode or Safe Mode

Disables all functions requiring significant operator attention while driving.

GPS Simulator

Stops the device from receiving a GPS signal. It can be used to plan routes from a simulated location.

Dispatch and Track

Allows you to receive dispatches and share your trip with a dispatcher and selected contacts in real-time.

Allows the device to record information for the myTrends, Where I've Been, and Trip Log features. The Trip Log is an electronic breadcrumb trail showing where you've been.
