Battery Charging Issues With a Montana 700 Series
If the Lithium-ion battery1 for a Montana 700 series handheld is not charging at all or fails to charge completely, follow these instructions.
NOTE: Use the USB charging cable that came with the Montana to ensure a proper charge.
- Make sure the software is up to date with Garmin Express. For instructions, see - Updating the Software on a Device That Will Not Charge.
- Connect the Montana to an AC charger.
- Leave the Montana connected to charge for 3+ hours.
If the Montana charges but does not charge all the way to 100%, try 3 separate 3 hour charge cycles. It may also help to try connecting the AC charger to a different power source.
The charging cable may need to be replaced if the Montana begins to take a charge when connected to the computer but does not charge all the way. The battery will likely need to be replaced if it still fails to take any charge.
Replacement batteries and charging accessories can be purchased from our website:
If the Montana will not charge and a replacement battery or cable does not resolve the problem, the device may need to be exchanged.
1 Charging instructions only apply for the Lithium-ion Battery Pack that comes with the device, not to other rechargeable batteries that may be used with the AA Battery Pack and Montana 700. The AA Battery Pack is not compatible with the the Montana 700i and 750i.
