Improving the Accuracy of the Rep Counting Feature on a Garmin Watch

Compatible Garmin watches that offer a Rep Counting feature will count exercise reps and automatically identify the exercise in Garmin Connect. Wrist motion is used to identify the type of exercise being done, and count the number of reps completed.

To identify exercises and count reps accurately:

  • Avoid doing reps too quickly or too slowly.

  • Avoid using weights that are either too light or too heavy for your current fitness level. Using weight that is too light or too heavy could cause inconsistencies in form or cadence.

  • Complete sets with a minimum of 8-10 reps.

  • Do not interrupt a set to view the number of reps or heart rate.

  • Do not wear the device with the display on the inside of the wrist.

  • Ensure the device is worn snugly and does not slide up or down while exercising.

  • Maintain good form and steady cadence throughout the exercise.

These suggestions can help to provide the most accurate rep counting information coming from the device. In the event that reps are added or missed, both the device and Garmin Connect can edit the number of reps counted.
