Using Newer GPSMAP, Montana, Foretrex, and eTrex Series Devices With BaseCamp on a Mac

The following outdoor handheld devices may not be recognized by the BaseCamp™ program on Mac:

  • eTrex® SE

  • eTrex® Solar

  • Foretrex® 801

  • Foretrex® 901

  • GPSMAP® 67

  • GPSMAP® 67i

  • Montana® 710

  • Montana® 710i

  • Montana® 760i

If you wish to use BaseCamp with one of these devices, a Windows computer should be used. If you do not have access to a Windows computer, these devices can be used with the Garmin Explore™ app on an Android or iOS mobile device1 to transfer data to or from the device. You can then import or export the files you wish to work with in BaseCamp.


Moving Data From the Handheld to BaseCamp (Mac)

    TIP: When choosing a destination to share files to, you can send them in an email to yourself in order to access them on your Mac computer.

2. Importing GPX Files into BaseCamp

Use the steps below to import the GPX file(s) into BaseCamp.

  1. Open Garmin BaseCamp software.

  2. Select File from the menu bar at the top of the screen.

  3. Select Import into '[Name]'

  4. Browse to the GPX file location and select the file.

  5. Select Import.


Moving Data From BaseCamp (Mac) to the Handheld

1. Exporting User Data From BaseCamp

Use the steps below to export GPX file(s) from BaseCamp.

  1. Open BaseCamp program.

  2. Select the information to be exported:

    • My Collection can be selected to export all user data stored.

    • A specific list or folder can be selected to export only its contents. For more information, see Related.

    • Specific items can be highlighted in the lower-left panel by clicking a single route, track, or waypoint.

      • To select multiple items, use Command Click.

  3. Select File from the menu bar at the top of the screen.

  4. Select an option:

    • Export 'My Collection'

    • Export '[folder/list name]'

    • Export Selected User Data

  5. Select GPS eXchange Format (.gpx) as the format, then choose a name and location to save the exported data.

  6. Select Export.

After exporting files from BaseCamp, you can send them in an email to yourself in order to access them on your Android or iOS mobile device.
