Transfer user data from HomePort to a GPSMAP 172 or 178 device
HomePort is a program that allows for the creation and editing of user data like waypoints, routes, and tracks. This user data can then be transferred to a GPSMAP 172 or 178 device. To transfer this information, please follow these instructions:
There are four items needed to transfer the information:
- A blank Garmin Data Card
- A Garmin Data Card Programmer
- A computer running a 32-bit version of Windows
- HomePort
If this is the first time the Garmin Data Card Programmer is to be used on this PC, the drivers for the Programmer will need to be installed. For instructions on installing these drivers, see Related Content.
To transfer the information from HomePort to the blank Garmin Data Card, please follow these instructions:
- Make sure the Garmin Data Card Programmer is connected to the computer
- Insert the blank Garmin Data Card into the Programmer
- Open HomePort
- The user data should appear on the left side of the program in the My Collection folder or any other folder that may have been created
- Right-click on the user data (either individual data or folder that contains the data) and choose Send To
- Choose USB Data Card Programmer
- Choose All Data
The user data will now be transferred to the Garmin Data Card.
To copy the user data from the Garmin Data Card to the internal memory of the device, please follow these instructions with the device powered ON:
- Insert the Garmin Data Card into the device
- Highlight Manage User Card and press the Enter button
- Look for the words "From Card" in the lower left corner of the screen and press the button directly below them
- Choose either Merge or Replace (located in the lower left corner of the screen) and press the button located directly below your choice
- Merge will copy the user data from the card and add it to the existing user data that is already saved in the device
- Replace will copy the user data from the card and replace the existing user data that is already saved in the device
The information will now be visible on the device and can be used at any time.
