Overlander On Road Navigation to an Off Road Destination
Both the Garmin Explore™ and Drive apps can work together to navigate you on and off-road.
Off-road navigation can only be done through the Garmin Explore app, which does not provide turn-by-turn directions.
This navigation is dependent on your ability to identify your current position on the map (indicated by ) and follows along a highlighted path.
For any route that requires on-road navigation, you can use the Drive app which does provide turn-by-turn directions.
Note: The Drive app may not follow the exact route or track you have made. It will only find the closest entry point or point selected, getting you as close as possible to the off-road portion of the trip.
Navigating Using the Garmin Explore and Drive Apps:
- From the Main Menu, select Explore
- Select
- Select the desired route, track or waypoint
- Select
- Select the next destination you wish to navigate to
The Drive app will then navigate by roads to the point selected by locking on to the nearest routable road available.
When arriving at the selected destination, touch the Garmin Explore app for the off-road navigation portion.
Navigation Tips:
You can toggle between the Drive and Garmin Explore apps by touching the appropriate icon in the top right corner.
For navigation that combines on and off-road, you may see two different colored lines in the Garmin Explore app. The magenta line represents the navigation the Drive app uses for locking on roads, while the blue line represents the off-road navigation created by selecting the desired route/track/waypoint in the Garmin Explore app.
