How to Set Up the Garmin Boat Switch Battery Sense Function

The Garmin Boat Switch can monitor start battery voltage using the Channel 30 Battery Sense connection. This information is provided to the NMEA 2000 network using the PGN 127508.

Note: Garmin Echomap chartplotters cannot receive PGN 127508 and are incompatible with the Battery Sense function.

To configure a data field to show the battery monitoring information in the GPSMAP Power page, follow these steps:

  1. The Garmin Boat Switch, Garmin MFD, start battery, and NMEA 2000 backbone must be connected to common ground to properly communicate
  2. Connect the Yellow with Black stripe Channel 30 wire from the X2 primary wiring harness to the positive terminal of the start battery
  3. Turn the system on
  4. Access the Garmin MFD power gauges by selecting Home > Vessel > Power
  5. Press and hold a data field to be replaced
  6. Select Replace Data
  7. Select Power
  8. Select DC Voltage
  9. Select Boat Switch (1) for the Battery Sense monitoring, or select Boat Switch (5) to monitor the battery connected to the Garmin Boat Switch positive and negative terminals

This data can also be applied to data overlays in other pages.
