Minimum and Maximum Password Lengths for Wi-Fi Networks
When connecting to a Wireless Network on your automotive device, if the network is password protected it must be at least 8 characters in length. The maximum length is listed below and depends on the type of network.
If your network password is less than 8 characters, the easiest workaround is to change your network password to meet this minimum requirement.
The Wi-Fi network connection on your automotive device would have to be set up manually if you wish to retain a password under this limit.
To Manually Connect to a Wi-Fi Network
- Open the device's Settings menu
or
- Touch Wi-Fi
- Touch the Menu button
- Three vertical dots in the top right corner
- Touch Add network
- NOTE: Hidden networks are not compatible with Wi-Fi updates on some Garmin devices.
- Enter the SSID for your network
- Check the documentation for your router if you are unsure how to find this
- Maximum length is 32 characters
- Scroll down and touch Security
- Select the security type your network is using
