OBD II Port Location

An OBD II port is a connector that allows diagnostic equipment to be plugged into a vehicle in order to read the vehicle's computer system.

All cars manufactured for sale in the US since 1996 have an OBD II diagnostic port as mandated by federal law. Manufacturers are required to place the OBD II port within three feet of the driver and to make the port accessible without any tools. It is typically located beneath the steering wheel, within the footwell.

There are other instances where the connector is behind a cover panel to make its appearance more appealing. In these cases it's necessary to open that panel to gain access to the OBD II port. If you're unable to locate your vehicle’s OBD II port, contact the vehicle’s manufacturer for assistance.
