Editing Check-In Contacts in the Garmin Messenger App

Check-in messages are a convenient way to send messages to specific group of friends and family. There are three check-in messages to choose from:

  • Check Mark I'm checking in, everything is okay.

  • Triangle I'm starting my trip.

  • Square I'm ending my trip.

You can customize the recipient list of your check-in messages, but you cannot customize what the check-in messages say. Check-in messages will include your location if available.

Editing Your Check-in Contacts

NOTE: To edit your check-in contacts, your phone must have Wi-Fi or mobile data available so the changes can be saved to your online account. It is best to edit check-in contacts before leaving on a trip. If your inReach® account was created prior to September 27th, 2022, you may instead see Presets with an option to Set Up Check-in (see Differences Between Preset, Check-in, and Quick Text Messages for more details).

  1. Ensure your compatible inReach device is powered on and paired with the Garmin Messenger™ app.

  2. In the Garmin Messenger app, select Device.

  3. Select Check-In.

  4. Select Edit Check-in Contacts to customize the recipient list of your check-in messages:

  5. Select an option:

    • Touch the field next to To: to manually enter SMS numbers, email addresses, or inReach addresses. You can also start typing the name of a saved contact, then select the contact from the list of results.
