Loading Music Files to an Automotive Device

The Camper/RV 890 and Camper/RV 1090 will play music files in MP3, AAC, MP4, WAV, and M4A format only. Other audio file types, including AIFF cannot be played.

The music files can be loaded to the internal memory of the device as well as an external microSD card. All music files will be displayed together on your device.

To load music files to your device's internal memory:

Note: It is easiest to use a windows computer. See Automotive Device Compatibility with Mac Computers if you don't have access to a windows computer.

  1. Plug your device into your computer with a USB cable
  2. Open the Garmin RV drive
    • Open Computer, My Computer, or This PC to access this drive
  3. Open Internal Storage
  4. Open the Music folder1
  5. Transfer the desired music files into this folder
    • This can be done by copying and pasting the files, or dragging and dropping them from their original location
  6. Disconnect the device

The music files will now be playable on the device.

To load music files to a blank microSD card, simply insert the microSD card into the device, open the SD card drive on your computer, then follow steps 3 and 4.

1If a Music folder is not visible, you may create one by pressing the keyboard combination Shift+Ctrl+N and naming the new folder Music. A Music folder is not necessary but helps to keep all your music files in one place. This makes it easier to locate the files if/when you need to delete them and helps prevent accidental deletion of other files in the device.
