Getting Started with the Garmin Explore App on the Overlander
The Garmin Overlander® GPS navigator offers a robust on and off road driving experience. This article is designed to help you get the most out of your Overlander device.
Important:
Before you set up the Garmin Explore™ App you will need to be connected to Wi-Fi. If you are already connected to your Wi-Fi then proceed to Signing in or Creating an Garmin Explore Account, otherwise follow the steps in the Owner's Manual.
NOTE: The Overlander is not compatible with courses. If courses are created from the Garmin Explore App or website and added to a collection, the Overlander will fail to sync any data until the course is deleted from the Garmin Explore account.
Signing in or Creating a Garmin Explore Account:
If you skipped the initial process when you first powered on your Garmin Overlander, you can still go back and set up your Garmin Explore account using the Garmin Overlander. Use the instructions below to create your account.
1. Tap on the Explore App
2. Agree to the EULA by tapping on the slide bar
3. Select either Not Now or Sync My Data to have the Overlander sync user data with Garmin Explore website
Sync User Data settings can be adjusted on the Account page in the Explore app.
4. Follow the steps based on if you have a Garmin account:
Yes I have an account: Type in your login information and tap Next.
No I do not have an account: Tap on Create One, complete all the requested fields, and tap Next.
5. Your Overlander will then finish setting up your account
Getting the Most Out of the Explore App:
Mapping:
Once the Garmin Explore App opens, it is recommended to download maps for your region. Detailed topographic maps of North America, color aerial imagery (US only), and detailed maps of most of the world can be downloaded for viewing and use in the Garmin Explore app. These maps will not be viewable in the Drive app.
Downloading Maps:
1. Tap Map at the bottom of the app or tap Layersicon in the top left corner of the map
2. Tap Download Maps
3. The next screen may initially have only two or three map download choices, based on your current view.
Tap Show More Map Types to list the rest of the map download options.
4. From here map options can be selected:
Tap the download arrows on the right to begin the download.
Select the map name for an area/region list.
Tap the ? icon on the right for descriptions of the map options.
Library and Collections:
The Library is a list of all your user data, waypoints, routes, and tracks, within the Garmin Explore app on the Overlander. User data can be broken into Collections. Collections are lists of data that can store selected user data from the Library, allowing for a less cluttered map, trip planning, or showing specific data.
Within the Garmin Explore app, tap Library.
If Sync User Data is enabled the Account, any user data created or previously synced to the Garmin Explore™ website will appear in Library.
Your device periodically synchronizes data with your account automatically. You can also synchronize data manually at any time.
Note: The Overlander must be connected to Wi-Fi in order to sync.
