Viewing Hunting Management Units for GPSMAP Handhelds With HuntView Plus Maps

Hunting Management Units (HMU) will not be turned on by default when a Garmin HuntView™ Plus map is installed on a compatible GPSMAP® handheld. Instructions for enabling the mapping are below along with some helpful tips for viewing the Hunting Management Units on the Map page of the handheld.

Things to Keep in Mind

  • Hunting Management Units (HMU) have multiple names depending on the state chosen.

Alternative names for Hunting Management Units include:

    • Game Management Units (GMU)

    • Wildlife Management Units (WMU)

    • Hunting Zones

  • All Hunting Management Units are shown with green lines. If multiple units are selected at the same time, it may be difficult to view the data.

  • Only available units for the specific state will be shown. For example, there will not be an option for alligators in Montana.

  • Some states do not group all species into specific units. For example, Oregon has 3 units; Duck, Goose, and all other species are grouped together.

  • The unit number will display at the top of the Map page if the area is highlighted.

  2. Press MENU.

  3. Select Map Setup.
